Frequently Asked
Finding the right therapist can take time, and starting therapy can bring up plenty of questions. Below are answers to some of the questions I hear most often. I encourage you to ask questions during your initial consultation as well, as it’s an opportunity to learn about my approach and experience, and to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me.

How long are individual therapy sessions? How often will we meet?
Individual therapy sessions are 53 minutes long. We typically start with weekly sessions to build momentum and continuity. Over time, we may increase or decrease the frequency based on your needs, progress, and what we decide together.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
I offer both. Meeting in person can support connection and trust and allow more flexibility in therapeutic activities. At the same time, virtual therapy can be a good option depending on your needs, schedule, and the type of work we are doing.
How long will therapy last?
There is no simple answer to this question—it really depends. Some clients finish therapy within a few months, while others stay for several years. Change takes time, particularly when there is a significant trauma history or longstanding patterns we are working with.
At the same time, I don't believe in doing therapy for the sake of doing therapy. We will regularly check in about your goals, your progress, and whether our work continues to be useful to you. And when you feel ready to finish, I will cheer you on as you start the next chapter of your life.
How do I know if we are a good fit?
Finding the right therapist can be hard, and I wholeheartedly support your desire to make sure we are a good match. You should feel comfortable with your therapist and have confidence in their approach and expertise. I also want to make sure that I have the skills and experience you need.
That is why I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation before starting therapy. It gives us a chance to meet, get a sense of each other, and decide whether we would like to move forward with working together. I require an initial consultation before beginning services so that we can both make that decision before starting therapy.
What does initial consultation look like?
The purpose of initial consultation is not to discuss your personal history in depth. It is a brief conversation about what brings you to therapy, what you are looking for, and any questions you may have about me or my approach. It also gives us an opportunity to make sure we are a good fit, both clinically and personally.
If I don't have the expertise you need or believe another provider may be better suited to help, I will let you know and, when possible, suggest other resources or options.
What if I change my mind after a few sessions?
This can happen. If you realize that my approach is not working for you, you are not obligated to continue. Ideally, we will talk about any concerns you have in session and see whether there is something we can adjust in our work together. If we decide that we are simply not the right fit, I will do my best to suggest other local resources that may better meet your needs.
Can I schedule therapy for a friend or family member?
Because I work with adults, I ask that prospective clients reach out and schedule their initial consultation themselves. You are welcome to share my information with a friend or family member, but the decision to begin therapy and the initial contact should come directly from them. This helps protect their privacy, ensures that seeking therapy is their own choice, and allows us to communicate directly about scheduling and next steps from the start.
What is your cancellation policy?
When we begin therapy, your weekly or bi-weekly appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. I ask for at least 24 business hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. For example, a Monday appointment needs to be cancelled by the corresponding time on Friday. Late cancellations and missed appointments are subject to a $100 fee.
Because I maintain a fixed caseload and reserve that time specifically for you, a late cancellation typically results in a lost clinical hour that cannot be replaced.
I understand that unexpected things happen, so each client receives one waived late-cancellation fee per calendar year. After that, the late-cancellation fee generally applies regardless of the reason for cancellation, including illness. If you are unable to come to the office but are well enough to participate, we can often switch your appointment to telehealth at your regular time. Exceptions may be made at my discretion for emergencies or unsafe weather conditions.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, and I will not disclose information about your care without your written authorization except when disclosure is required or permitted by law. There are limited exceptions, including certain situations involving safety, suspected abuse or neglect, and legal requirements. We will review confidentiality and its limits in detail before beginning therapy, and I am always happy to answer questions about how your information is protected.
